The creators of SEL may have designed him with early [[Wikipedia:Parapsychology|parapsychologists]] in mind. He shares a name with Australian spiritualist [http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/hodgson-richard-3777 Richard Hodgson.] Also, his face bears a resemblance to that of [[Wikipedia:William_James|William James]].
