The scientist who invented the original KIDS system used in the infamous Kensington Experiment. He appears briefly in Layer 06 to discuss his findings with Lain. Lain strongly disapproves of his actions.

In Konaka's Scenario Experiments Lain, a footnote says Hodgeson is named after Charles Dodgson, and not William Hope Hodgson. Though similarities between Dodgson and Professor Hodgeson may not be immediately apparent, closer inspection reveals that they had at least two things in common. First, they both believed in psychic powers such as extrasensory perception and telekinesis; Dodgson was a member of the Society for Psychical Research. Second, they both liked to play with kids.
