The employer of the Men in Black. He works at Tachibana Labs. He has failing health.[citation needed]
His name is Kurosawa (黒沢), according to Visual Experiments Lain. He is not named in the scenarios.
In Layer 07, Lain is brought to him and, after she helps him fix his old NAVI, he questions her understanding of reality - particularly her identity and family.
In Layer 12 he betrays his enforcers and reveals that he has sided with Eiri Masami, causing the deaths of both Men in Black.
