A recurring theme throughout the [[Serial Experiments Lain]] franchise is the question of [[Lain Iwakura]]'s identity. She displays several different personalities in the [[Serial Experiments Lain (anime)|anime]] and often appears in two places at once, suggesting that there is more than one Lain.
A minor character in [[Layer 04]] who screams curse words and protestations as he is pursued by a [['Gotcha' girl|young girl]] through his high-rise apartment building at night.
In the scene that follows, [[Alice Mizuki]], [[Juri Katou]], and [[Reika Yamamoto]] are having a conversation at [[school]] about a recent rash of suicides among high school students. They mention one student in particular who had jumped off the roof his apartment building. When they try to tell [[Lain Iwakura]] about the news, she responds that she has already heard about it, on [[the Wired]].
